Lunch at Mr. Mandoo

On Sunday we thought we'd go get lunch at Mr. Mandoo.  As we left Ala Moana Center, we looked for it on Piikoi Street.  It was missing!!  Since we were certain it was there before, we drove up to the curbside and looked to see what happened to it.  There was a sign in the window that said they've moved to 710 N. King Street in Kalihi.  Since we were planning to go to Home Depot anyway, we went to check out their new location.

It's a pretty good location with several parking spaces that are shared with the neighboring convenience store.  Inside there are 3 four top tables and 2 two top tables.  Not much seating, especially when they're busy.  It was very busy there!

The menu is a little confusing to me, but you should be able to figure out what to order.  We had an order of the fried mandolin, chicken katsu plate & a few steamed "king" mandoo.  We wanted to try the spicy pork steamed mandoo, but they were all out.  We ended up with 2 vegetable steamed mandoo and 1 sweet red bean steamed mandoo.  It was too much for us to finish.  They served tea, kim chee & miso soup too.  We ended up taking home 1 whole vegetable & half of the red bean mandoo.

I stuck the leftovers in the toaster oven this morning with an ice cube to add some steam and baked the mandoo for our breakfast.  It came out rather nicely toasted.

The food is very tasty at Mr. Mandoo.  I also like the design & decor of the tiny restaurant.  The service was also good considering there seemed to be only 2 people working!  1 lady out front & a man working the kitchen.  Almost every seat was full & other customers were also coming in for take out orders!

Check it out!

Cakes & Cupcakes Techniques Class at Williams-Sonoma.

(I hope Posterous posts the photos this time!!)

This morning was the cupcakes & cakes technique class at Williams-Sonoma.  It was crowded.  I'm sure it was booked up within hours of their email blast last month.

The yellow layer cake with butter cream frosting was delicious!  This was a very interesting class.  Lots of good pointers to pick up even for someone who is an avid cook/baker.

Some other photos I also took at the store...  I took a photo of the Easter Egg poster because Kelli was insisting that it was an owl on the blue egg as we looked at it from outside the store.  I told her it was a cat, but she didn't want to believe me!  ;)

I hope some of you are already registered for next week's filled class!!  It's going to be about pies!!

Here we are waiting for the technique class about pies to begin.

I thought I'd post a single photo post to Posterous to see if it works properly.

Here it goes!

Lunch at Ho-Ho, Home Depot Kapolei, House Project.

**3rd attempt to let Posterous get this correctly.**  sorry about the multiple posts.

Yesterday I had several appointments to show my listing in Makakilo & Kelli rode out there with me.  After the appointments, it was lunch time so we headed down to Ho-Ho Chinese Cuisine to eat lunch.  We ordered the Schezuan Eggplant & Minute Chicken w/Cake Noodle.  It. tasted good, but the cake noodles could have been more cake like & crisp.  I was told that the egg custard pies here are "the best" so we took a look at what they had after we finished eating.  Unfortunately, they ran out of the mini pies & I didn't want to buy the full size one so we'll have This try that another day.

Since we couldn't get a mini pie we stopped at Wendy's to get a "Coffee Toffee Twisted Frosty" made with the chocolate flavor.  It's pretty expensive at $3.12 for small (the only size this special one comes in) considering you can buy the large regular flavors for under $3!  Anyway, we love Wendy's and are very disappointed that they didn't open on the corner formerly known as "Andy's Kahala Chevron"!!  :(

We then went to Home Depot to get some stuff for the house we've been working on.  Kelli wanted to buy a closet system so we picked up the stuff there.  The long shelf took up a lot of the space in the car so Kelli had to sit in the back.

There's a photo of the closet before.  I didn't take an after photo yet.  There are after photos of the bedroom paint and the hardwood floors in the living area.

There's also a photo of my Jai's Burrito from Jose's in Kaimuki.

Now we're off to Williams-Sonoma for our morning of technique class covering pies.  Maybe we can make our own "best custard pie"!  Then we're going to Chinatown for Dim Sum lunch at Happy Garden.  :)

I hope Posterous works this time!!!  Anyone using Posterous have any idea why my photos aren't in the post, but show up in the email?  :-/

I don't know what happened, Posterous didn't include the photos so I'm trying again.

I also forgot to explain the burrito is from Jose's in Kaimuki, my dinner.

Putting the young ones to WORK!

Well, we're still painting the bedroom so since Kelli was taking so long to finish it I had to put my brother's kids to work.  We don't have our own kids so I needed to sub-contract out for the added work force.  They are non-union, unlike Kelli (she's HGEA), so I got good work out of them for a good deal!  Hahaha!  Just joking...  :p

Blustery Morning Breakfast - ochazuke お茶ずけ。

It's a very breezy & cool morning.  I decided to make us some ochazuke (Japanese green tea & rice) for breakfast.

I added some mirin (It was delicious!)

As you can see, I'm also enjoying the Simeji application for Android that I downloaded last week.  It's a free application & works fabulously for typing (on my phone) in Japanese 日本語。

If you have an Android phone & want to type in Japanese, try it out!

PS- Thanks Moris & Emi (http://alohamoris.blogspot.com/)for the delicious wasabi miso!  ありがとう!

Delicious Apple Bread!

After I closed up my open house yesterday that was in Upper Makakilo, I went down to visit my friends' home in Kapolei.  I visited to help tune their DeLonghi Magnifica that I gave them last year for their new home.

They made an attempt to figure it out, but for some reason the display was in another language so they didn't get very far.  Anyway, as soon as it was plugged in when I was there it magically returned to display the universal language, English.  Made my job quite simple!  :)

The house call espresso machine tuning didn't come without payment.  I was compensated with a slice of delicious home baked Apple Bread!  I brought it home and Kelli & I ate it up early this morning for breakfast.  It was delicious & was extremely well paired with my Rwanda Roast Americano!

Thanks for the treat "N"!  =)

Cupcakes from LV = pre open house energy! Come to Seascape at Makakilo #20!

These cupcakes were hand carried over by Kelli's parents.  They are from some place in the Palazzo (not from HTTP://WWW.CodyCakes.blogspot.com :(  ).

Anyway, I'm snacking on them right now just before I head to Seascape at Makakilo for my open house.  If you're in the neighborhood, stop by & visit!  :)

Sorry, cupcakes will not be provided unless Cody Cakes stops by with a surprise!!!

Kelli's 1st mission as part of the Nakama Clan.

Today Kelli officially started on her first Nakama Clan mission.  Her mission is to spruce up this 1930's home.  She started by caulking the bedroom to prepare for a new coat of paint.  She did a very good job for her first time.

Also check out the hardwood floors that we're refinishing.  This was hiding under an old ugly carpet!

Happy Girls' Day!

Today is March 3rd, Girls' Day in Japan.  Actually, March 3rd was yesterday in Japan, but here in Hawaii it is today!  Here are some interesting photos that were blogged about by others who have celebrated this event in Japan.
