Kalaeloa Raceway Park - Officially Open Announcement Party.

Yesterday, I drove Abe's car out to the "Open House" that the Kalaeloa Raceway Park group was holding.

There wasn't a lot of information about what was going to be going on at this open house other than what what was found here: http://www.kalaeloaracewaypark.com/index.php?limitstart=2/.  Their goal was to keep most of their progress and activities low key to avoid any added hurdles that could have been created due to rumors or misinterpreted information.  It looks like all their hard work has paid off because they made a big announcement yesterday that as of yesterday, Kalaeloa Raceway Park was officially open for business!  I won't go into the details of that because they are all found here:  http://www.kalaeloaracewaypark.com/.

I took a lot of photos while I was there.  I've included several of them with this post.  I was surprised to see the large number of people that were there, because I hardly knew anything about this event and it seems that most of my friends knew even less or nothing about up to the morning of the event.  Even I had not decided if I would be going to the open house until the day before because I don't like going into things that I don't know enough about.

When I sat with some friends in one of the tents, I was beginning to think we may be at a political fundraising event.  I felt this way because of the lack of information and because it looked like the event was being sponsored by Neil Abercrombies Campaign with all the Abercrombie signs everywhere.  I do not know to what extent the Abercrombie Campaign was involved in this event, but I am certain his campaign volunteers were there in force helping to serve the free food that hundreds of people stood in line for.  My Twitpic also made it on the Neil Abercrombie Facebook Page: http://www.facebook.com/abercrombieforgov/.  :)

Anyway, this was not a political event.  It was the official announcement party of Kalaeloa Raceway Park!  The only political words made by one of the speakers was his recommendation to everyone there to vote!  He said that he doesn't care who we all vote for, but please do vote for someone!

While this track does not have any paved courses yet, at least a raceway park is officially available on the island.  The years of not having a race track has significantly changed my life.  I am now married, have changed careers and have a Scion as my daily vehicle.  My track car has been totally stripped down to the metal and has been in the shop for nearly 5 years.  Without having any idea of what I would do with the car after spending thousands of hours of labor and thousands of dollars on my car, motivation to complete the rebuild has been lacking.  After the combination of driving Abe's car down to the track and learning that we now actually have made progress by having Kalaeloa Raceway Park as an official venue for racing, my motivation has a new spark of life!

Thank you to all that are involved in the Kalaeloa Raceway Park's accomplishments and to the supporters of Hawaii's Motorsports communities.
